wonder-ful

wonder-ful

When I feel down it's easy to dwell on what's not working. Suddenly thougha sliver of sunlight bounces off a mirror and I realize there's stuff out there I'm just taking for granted. A lot of little miracles surprisingly, by making me feel small, also make me feel something is bigger, something wiser and it's reassuring

It's like I'm an ant muddling along in the dirt and happening once in a while to see the sky.

Here are some of the reminders I find wonder-ful

-skin on the human body is a covering without seams

-when you cut the fabric, it sews itself back up, if it's skin

-the most sophisticated computer known to mankind is our brain and we don't even understand that

-a toddler will say " I jumped, I walked, I falled down" logically, theorizing the past tense in English takes 'ed'. But he cannot tell you this theory.. His brain knows it but he can't put it in words

-the human body is on a timer. Hair changes color on its own.

-a baby can be born with one color of hair and this can change dramatically in two years

-baby's eye colors can change

-a woman's body knows how to give birth even if she does not

-to make a full adult, we grow it inside another full adult. We are able to do this by making the new one start small.

-The brain needs to be protected by a strong skull but that very skull might have trouble exiting the mother's womb. It is made pliable just for a while, so the baby can get out.

-To house something that gets bigger you make it so the container itself grows. The womb does. It then goes back to small, on its own

-any piece of art you create may be there after you die

-a mighty tree starts from a small seed

-there is even art work in a sunrise, in clouds. Nature is endlessly creative

-in a crowded room, a familiar laugh, throat-clearing or cough may be not from the one you know but their adult child

-the human eye changes focus automatically for distance or close-up, as you need it

-we have two of most vital things, one as backup- two lungs, two kidneys, two arms, two eyes, two nostrils

-there are still ways to breathe if your nose is plugged. You open your mouth

-if you swallow something foreign, it gets coated so it will do least harm, and it will come out

-the body is built to fight off invaders, viruses, bacteria. You don't need to know how or think hard to direct this. Your body will do it. All you have to do is rest.

-when you sleep your ears don't hear what you when awake would easily hear

-a dog is like a living pillow that loves you back

-a dog knows when your car is approaching, a block before humans do

-dogs know when you're afraid and when you're sick

-dog saliva has healing properties

-dogs don't get AIDS

-even the smallest bird can do something you can't

-the child can grow to be bigger than the mother it came out of

-a mother with a chronic illness can give birth to a baby free of the illness

-every baby is young, regardless of the age of the mother and fresh new cells were created in a container of only old ones

-babies in all cultures babble sounds of all known languages plus a few

-at two years old a child is half its adult height. The growth rate those first two years will never be repeated in its lifetime

-the ears keep growing all your life as does the nose, but the eyes are adult-sized from birth

-trees don’t keep growing upwards but have a maximum height

-blood can flow upward and has to to reach our brains

-the atom, the smallest thing we know, is designed with a centre and things orbiting, very much like the solar system, the largest thing we know

-the math principle of inverse squared applies to the key forces of nature of gravitation, magnetism and electricity and we did not make it that way. It just is

-even in war zones small children want to play

-the key things that keep us alive- breathing, blood circulation, digestion, happen without our thinking about them. We are built to survive.

-In the brain the key functions for survival are hidden deepest so even with serious brain injury the core keeps us breathing.\

-the mind and body interact mysteriously so will to live or giving up can seriously change outcomes

-children see through adults and sense moods we thought they did not

-the sun rises every day, and never fails us

-sunsets of incredible beauty are free for the just and unjust both

-the rich have no monopoly on love or courage

-death comes to all. Those who accept this seem to live happier lives.

-small children with long-term medical problems can often teach us what matters most

-smart thinkers left many of their insights in books and movies

-music has powers no words have

-just being with someone you love shrivels worry

-nature does not give up on making birds or baby calves

-many flowers bloom unplanted by man

-there is a difference you learn between alone and lonely

-life is long enough to give time to rest, apologize, do over.

-you can't see wind, only its effects

-air seems empty but is full of sound waves

-you can sense when someone is standing behind you

-it's shocking to find out the cause of great pain is such a small sliver

-man bids but weather often holds the ace

-humans need water, and rain comes

-trees are never fully straight but still stand tall

-the thumb enables us to grasp

-dogs age without complaining

-dogs can sense when the owner is going to have an epileptic seizure of diabetic low

- a predictable number series appears in the count of petals of daisies or spirals of sunflowers, pinecones and pineapples

-nature slowly reclaims the land when sidewalks crack

-every snowflake is unique

-shooting stars, comets, eclipses and rainbows are amazing

-when someone lays dying, the body shuts down gently in stages. An observer wonders what the fear was about

-some of nature's brightest colors are on birds, fish and insects. It's like a painter having a great day

-dogs have many facial expressions if you look closely, and one does seem to be a smile

-a broken bone will automatically start to sew itself back together

-you'd bleed to death except your own blood creates blockage by clotting

-if you damage your brain in one area, messages will over time reroute to the destination

-a dog will wake you at the same time every day

-smoking, drugs, alcohol lure by promise of pleasure and end up destructive. Generations warned youth against them as only seemingly innocent noxious - SIN
